“The Tale of the Sun and the Moon” is a lullaby about why the sun is up during the day and the moon is out at night. It’s somewhat of a platonic love song about two best friends who can’t really be together as much as they would like. The song is from the CD, Snail’s Pace, by Eric Herman (also available on his The Kid in the Mirror album), and was adapted from a poem by Kenn Nesbitt. The illustrations in the video were made by Lauren Wilson and the video was conceived and directed by Eric and Roseann Endres.

UV light contains small amounts of radiation that ever-so-lightly [move and shake] atoms. This breaks apart organic molecules. When this happens to our hair it loses pigmentation because the molecular structure that held the pigment has been broken up. When it happens to our skin it makes the melanocytes in our skin produce melanin, which makes out skin darker. This is our skin’s natural defence against the radiation – melanin absorbs UV rays to some extent so there is less radiation to damage us. That’s why when you have light skin and go into the sun it gets damaged and you end up with a sunburn, but if you have a tan or just have naturally darker skin you don’t have to worry about being burned as easily.

The Earth would be colder. The polar ice caps would be larger. The winters would last longer. Snowstorms would occur more frequently. The summers would be shorter. Ice ages would be longer and occur more frequent. There would be more days in a year. Holidays would take longer to repeat. Children would become grownups and have more rights and more responsibilities at ages of fewer of what then would be years. Fewer people would live to what then would be their 70th birthday. The daytime sky would be dimmer. The we would receive less light from the moon from the Sun during the night, including during a full moon. Earth would receive less solar flares, less solar wind from the Sun and less cosmic rays. Auroras would occur less often if at all. The water waves during a first quarter moon and third quarter moon would be smaller. Deserts, desert animals and desert trees would be less common. Polar life would be more common. Deserts like the Sahara would be greener. Australia too. Deadly hurricanes would occur less often.
