Solar plane completes maiden flight
An experimental plane, powered only by rays from the sun, has landed safely in Switzerland after successfully completing its first 24-hour test flight.
The “Solar Impulse” took off on Wednesday from Payerne airfield shortly after dawn and touched down a day later having proved that overnight solar-powered flight is possible.
Clear blue skies meant that the prototype aircraft was able to soak up plenty of solar energy as it made a gradual ascent to a final altitude to 27,900 feet or 8,500 metres and then flew in darkness using energy stored up during the day.
Pilot Andre Borschberg endured freezing conditions overnight and ended the test flight with a picture-perfect landing.

How does the sun appear from the moon?
We all have seen pictures of the earth from the moon. But how does the sun appear? I know that the sky would be black on the moon, Would the sun be a ball of yellow surrounded by a black sky?
Or would the sky around the sun appear as light blue?
The sky on earth appears blue because of the light scattering through the atmosphere. The edge of the sun appears slightly fuzzy also due to light being scattered. There is no atmosphere of any kind on the moon. The sun as seen from the moon would be a tightly defined yellow circle surrounded by blackness.

Er beeindruck durch große Rechenleistung bei vergleichsweise niedrigem Energieverbrauch, verringerter Geräuschentwicklung und niedrigerer Materialbelastung.

Für den geringen Energiebedarf von 1575 Watt sorgen das effiziente Energiemanagement bei Prozessoren und Arbeitsspeicher. Damit wird der Energieverbrauch um bis zu 35 Prozent reduziert. Zur Effizienz trägt ebenso die Kühlung mit hohem Wirkungsgrad bei. Möglich ist dies durch das optimierte Chassis-Design und den Einsatz von Intelligent Fan Control (IFC). Durch das neu konzipierte Subsystem für die Stromverteilung (hocheffiziente, digitale Regler) geht im Vergleich zu herkömmlichen, analogen Systemen bis zu 50 Prozent weniger Energie verloren.
Dank Solaris Containern und Logical Domains (LDoms) sind Virtualisierungsfunktionen beim T5440 ohne zusätzliche Mehrkosten bereit enthalten. Damit empfiehlt sich der T5440 Server für Konsolidierung- und Virtualisierung-Projekte, sowie für große Anwendungen in den Bereichen Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) oder Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
